This edition of Five Questions & Quick Hitters is with Olivia Haukoos. Olivia is a 5'8" 2024 Guard from United Christian Academy HS (MN) & Crossfire Davis AAU. Thanks for your time Olivia!
1. You have recently picked up a couple of more college offers. As you head into your Senior season, when do you hope to make your final decision and what are some of the key things you're looking for in a school both academically and on the court?
- I am hoping to make my final college decision before the new year. I will go on a few more visits this fall before I officially decide where I want to go! When I look at a school I’m looking for a positive vibe with the coaching staff and the girls on the team. It’s easy to tell just by meeting a few people if I’d feel comfortable spending the next four years playing with them. On the court, I prefer a fast speed offense with quick passing as well as pushing the ball in transition. Academically, the school needs have a strong sense of community on campus and both of the majors I’m currently interested in; Psychology and Exercise Science.
2. You're coming off a successful season with Crossfire Davis. What were some of your favorite events to play in and what were some of your favorite moments spent with your teammates?
- My favorite tournaments we competed in this past season were the USJN Premier Showcase in Chicago and the Meltdown. I’ve played in Chicago twice in my AAU career and it’s always been a very fun and energized environment to play in. These tournaments also were some of my favorite moments with my teammates. Spending lots of time together in Chicago and finishing our AAU careers together in the Meltdown were some of the best parts of the season.
3. United Christian Academy is coming off a solid season. Despite a key injury you do return the core of your roster. What are some of your individual and team goals for your Senior season?
- We lost two seniors last season so most of our roster will be returning, including all five starters. A couple individual goals I have for my final season are improving every game and ending the season playing my best basketball. I’d like to improve my 3 point shooting percentage and stats overall, and become the best leader I can be. I am also excited to play with my sister who will be a freshman at UCA this year. One of our team goals is to continue to play better as a team, win our conference, and eventually work up to becoming section champions again.
4. As you've journeyed through your recruiting, what is some of the best advice you've received that you would give the same advice to younger players in the process?
- The best advice I’ve been given about recruitment is being willing to put yourself out there early in the process. Contacting schools you might be interested in is something that helped me connect with coaches and learn more about the schools before visiting them in person. Another thing I would pass to younger players would be to do what you want to instead of following the opinions or plans that others may have for you.
5. When you're off the basketball court, what are some of your favorite sports or activities to be involved in?
- When I’m not playing basketball I enjoy to spend time with family, friends and teammates. I like to go to concerts and travel as much as I can as well.
