This edition of Five Questions & Quick Hitters is with Sadie Kubacki, a Freshman this season at Wauwatosa East High School (WI), who plays club hoops with Wisconsin Playground Elite 2026 Purple. Thanks for your time Sadie!

1. You are a Freshman at Wauwatosa East this season. What are some of your personal and team goals for the upcoming 2022-23 season?

I am very excited to compete at the high school level at Wauwatosa East this year. Personal goals I have are working to make a difference for the team in whichever role my coach needs me.  I want to be the hardest worker both on and off the court. I want to attack and finish strong at the basket consistently against tougher, older competition.

My team goals are to create strong team chemistry and finish top three in the Greater Metro conference, make it to the regional final, and be competitive at the sectional level.

2. As you begin to get fully into the recruiting process, who are some of the people you will lean on for advice during the process that may have been through it before, either as players or as coaches?

I feel very fortunate to have had incredible coaches that are not only skilled but also really care about their players. I will lean on my coaches from both AAU and high school.  I plan to do a ton of research and connect with trainers, players and coaches that have been through the process to learn as much as I can about how to be successful in getting recruiting. My parents are very supportive through this process also.

3. You will be playing with Wisconsin Playground Elite 2026 next spring and summer. How familiar are you with your teammates and what are some of your expectations for the upcoming club season?

It is going to be a really fun and competitive team to play with. I have played with five of the nine girls before.  I know them as players and I know their abilities are strong.  We have chemistry and am looking forward to  adding to it.  I also have seen the other girls on my team play and they are very talented players so I am confident we are going to have a great season. It will be a very fun summer of AAU basketball!

4. If you take a look at your own games, what are some of your biggest basketball strengths and intangibles that you try to bring to your team, and what is an area you're working hard on to turn into another future strength?

At a young age my Grandpa, former PA announcer for Milwaukee Bucks, shared with me the importance of defense. He saw how crucial defense is and how it can sometimes be ignored by players. He had years of having a front row seat to NBA greats.  Defense will always help make a difference on a team.  When things aren’t always going your way as a player, you can always control your defense and hustle. I think that my biggest strengths are my defense, rebounding, hustle, and having the ability to get to the paint and either kick it or score.  Some things I am working on are improving my handles, having strong finishes and continuing to always work on the consistency of my shot.  My ultimate goal is to be a well-rounded player on both ends of the court.

5. What is the best part about competing, whether in basketball or any other activities you enjoy?

I love competing. It is exciting and fun! In addition to basketball I also play on a competitive soccer team.

The best part about competing is growing. I like the process. I like getting better. Every time you compete you learn something about yourself or your game that you can do better or work on. I want to play against the toughest competition to always push myself.  Of course, it is also really fun when you are in a game and everything is going your way. You can feel all your practice pay off and your shot feels just right, your moves, your defense everything is just right. There is no better feeling for me.
