This edition of Five Questions & Quick Hitters is with Olivia Nickson, a talented 2025 out of Lindblom Math & Science Academy High School (IL), who plays club basketball with Mac Irvin Fire. Thanks for your time Olivia!

1. You recently attended the Midwest Hoops Spotlight, what were some of the areas you go to work on, and what do you feel were the biggest takeaways from the event, either in terms of information/learning, or actual on the court teaching?

Thank you so much for getting in touch with me! Yes, I attended Midwest Hoops Spotlight recently. My focus at the showcase was to use what I practice at home and in training. The purpose of attending was to gain an experience that would have made me a better basketball player. Being able to play against girls who also have similar interests as I was my biggest takeaway from the event. For me, it was an awesome learning experience and a great competition.

2. You have a busy stretch this fall with Showcases and Events, what other events are you attending, and what are some things you're hoping to learn at or get exposure from, each of the camps?

This weekend, I will be attending Prep Girls Hoops  Showcase. Also, in two weeks I will be attending Junior All-Star featured 40. I'm hoping to learn how to enhance my basketball skills, learn new techniques, and new strategies.

3. As you head into your Sophomore season at Lindblom Math & Science, what are some of your individual and team goals for the upcoming 2022-23 season?

My individual goals for my  sophomore season are to be a leader, disciplined on the court, and mentally focused. As a leader of my high school team, I feel we will be more cohesive as a team. It's very important to be together as a family and to have a bond; I hope to achieve this during the 22-23 season. My individual goals are focused toward maintaining elevating my team.

4. You've garnered a lot of notice with college coaches. What are some things you'll ultimately be looking for in a program in the classroom and on the court, and who are some of the people you will lean on for some guidance during the recruiting process?

Some things I will be looking for are guidance and understanding in a classroom setting. My parents and my trainers from the past few years are people I will turn to during my recruitment process. My trainers  have  knowledge what this  journey entails.

5. When you do self analysis on your game, what do you think are some of your biggest strengths as a player, and what area of your game are you currently developing with the goal of turning it into another strength in your game?

When I self-analyze my game, I have thoughts of what I need to do to be successful. My instincts kick in. Among my greatest strengths as a player are speed, focus, communicate, and playing low. My current goals are to not rush and to be confident in my abilities. Since I'm afraid of making mistakes in games, I seldomly try new things until I feel comfortable with them.
