This edition of Five Questions & Quick Hitters is with Kylie Simpson, a talented 2024 multi-sport athlete from Bottineau High School (ND), who plays club hoops with ND Attack. Thanks for your time Kylie!

1. You are a multi-sport athlete, and one of those sports in addition to basketball is volleyball. How do you feel the volleyball season is going, and how do you feel about your own play?

The volleyball season this year for us is going great! We have a really young team we are building and it’s going very well. We got a new setter this year, she is a sophomore and learning a lot but doing awesome and I love working with her. I improved on my vertical this year and found my swing which made my hitting a lot better and more fun. I also have improved on defense. We have a very scrappy team who loves to get after it and play hard so it’s fun to be apart of that team.

2. Amongst your basketball work this summer was a trip to Minot State camp. Did you attend any other camps as well, and what were some of the things you took away from working with the college coaches?

My team does many team camps in the summer. We went to Mayville Team camp, Moorhead team camp, Legacy team camp, Devils Lake team camp and South prairie team camp. I also went to Pacesetters basketball camp that came to Bottineau. When we went to Moorhead team camp the assistant coach there gave me some pointers to work on. She said to tighten up my ball handling and to explode up on my layups more.

3. As you head into your Junior season, what are some of your individual and team goals this season at Bottineau for the basketball season?

Some of my individual goals this year is to improve my 3 point percentage, I wasn’t super happy with is last year so hoping to improve it and I have already over the summer. Our team goals are definitely to make it to the district championship again and even the region championship. We all have very high hopes for our team this year so just expecting a lot of success for sure.

4. As you get deeper down the recruiting process now, what are some of the things you're looking at in schools, both in the class room and on the court?

I am looking for a great coach, someone who will teach me more and push me as an athlete to the next level but also help me learn more at life. I am looking for a coach who loves the game and appreciates it. I am looking for a team with great team culture who loves their school with a lot of pride. Also a place with good strength conditioning and good help and support in school, just a place to become a well rounded individual not only in basketball.

5. This past season you played club basketball with ND Attack. What were some of your favorite places you got to play, and what were some of your highlights from the season?

I loved playing AAU this summer! I had a great team who pushed each other and played great together. My favorite place to play was definitely Iowa. We ended up winning our division down in Iowa and that was definitely our team highlight of the season. I was a shooting guard for our team and knocked down some three pointers to help our team out. We also had such a great defensive team that pushed me wanting to be a better defensive player to bring back to my high school team.
