This edition of Five Questions is with MaKenzie Drout. MaKenzie will be a Senior this season at Kimberly High School (WI) and played club basketball with Let It Rain 2023 Black. The talented 2023 recently committed to Appalachian State to play collegiately. Thanks for your time MaKenzie!

1) After weighing several Division I opportunities, you recently committed to Appalachian State. First of all, congratulations! Secondly, what were some of the deciding factors in making your choice to head to North Carolina to play your college basketball and attend school?

Thank you! I chose App State because I love the culture that they have and are building, there style of play fits my game, I love the goals and vision they had for my future and the teams future, the coaches and players made it feel like home and the school itself is in a really cool location.

2) You just wrapped up your club career with Let It Rain 2023 Black. You had most of the team stay together for several seasons. This year you had a few parts change and also some injuries on the team. Looking back now, what were some of your favorite memories from not only this season, but the last several with Let It Rain?

I loved playing on Let It Rain, my coaches and my teammates made it about more than just basketball so there was a lot of fun memories. I loved having my dad as a coach so there are a lot of memories that we have. But my favorite memories during the games were when we went into overtime last year with a team in the Chicago and playing the other Wisconsin teams. Some of my favorites outside of basketball were bringing a water gun to the gym, going to a WNBA game in Chicago, and going to a roof top pool singing karaoke.

3) Last season you averaged over 17 PPG at Kimberly, a traditionally strong program. What are some of your personal and team goals as you head into your Senior season?
Some goals that we have as a team this season are to become connected, build a strong culture within the program, to work hard every game and work on concepts that the coaches are putting in both offensively and defensively and to obviously win games. Some goals that I have individually are to work hard everyday in practice and in the games, to get after all the hustle plays by diving on the ground, getting rebounds, hustling after 50/50 balls, and to build leadership in the team.
4) You've had the chance to play in several different states, as well as across Wisconsin. What have been some of your favorite places to play or visit during your career in basketball?
My favorite places to play have been in Chicago at the TOC and Hopkins in Minnesota. Locally my favorite gym to play in my conference is Kaukauna because there is always a lot of energy for that game.
5) Like many people, I know you primarily thru basketball, but when you're not on the court, what are some of your favorite activities or other interests?
My interests outside of basketball are running track, playing tennis, watching football and baseball, cooking/baking, listening music, going hiking, and hammocking.
