This edition of Five Questions is with Alyssa Eckroth, who recently committed to Western Colorado University. Alyssa played club with Missouri River Elite and will be a Senior this season at Bismarck Legacy (ND). Thanks for your time Alyssa!

1) We'll start with something I learned when I messaged you. You were part of a mission trip to Mexico. What was the purpose of the trip and how did it go for you?

The purpose of the mission trip to me was to get closer in my faith and help people who are less fortunate than me! The mission trip was so eye opening for me and will definitely be a core memory in my life. We got to play with the little kids, we gave them gifts and built 4 houses for families who did not have a home!

2) You recently completed your club season with Missouri River Elite. You had a lot of success as a team. What were some of your favorite moments either on or off of the court?

Winning the Summer Jam this year was one of my favorite moments on the court! We also did team building at almost every tournament. We did team meals, escape rooms, roller coasters, waterparks, bowling and mini golfing! I will forever be grateful for the time with my teammates! I also loved how AAU gave me the opportunity to visit many different states in the US.

3) You recently committed to Western Colorado. What were some of the things that went into your decision to join Coach Jacobson and the Mountaineers?

I was looking for a place that felt like home to me. A place with both a great basketball and Pre-Med program.  It was not an easy decision because I had some great college coaches and programs that believed in me. But I found the perfect fit and I am very happy to say I did recently commit to Western Colorado University and am so excited to be playing for Coach Jacobson!

4) You play with a smaller club program in Missouri River Elite, but you are proof that playing with a smaller program, but being a productive player and being part of a team that won consistently, can still pay off with scholarship opportunities. What were some of the biggest benefits you saw in playing with MRE?

I do believe that if you are good enough, the coaches will find you. I maybe didn't get as much exposure because I played for a smaller program,  but social media and highlight videos also definitely helped and I was fortunate to receive alot of great offers. It really came down to MRE feeling like family! Coach Berryhill has believed in me since I was a freshman and gave me a great opportunity to play with the 17u team.  He has always been a huge supporter of me and I felt it was important to be loyal to my program! I also loved how every year I got the opportunity to play with some of my high school teammates!

5) Last season at Bismarck Legacy you reached the State Quarterfinals, were named All WDA and All-State Tournament Team. What are some of the things you're hoping to do this season as a follow-up to a strong Junior year?

I want to help lead my team to a state title! We have some great young talent coming up, and I think we will have a very solid team this year! I am definitely excited for my senior season and playing one more year for Coach Petrik!
