This edition of Five Questions is with Evie Schmitz. Evie just completed club play with Minnesota Suns 2024 Blue Star and will be a Junior this season at St Louis Park High School (MN). One of the toughest kids you'll find in the region. Thanks for your time Evie!

1) You recently concluded your club season with Minnesota Suns 2024 Blue Star. You had a lot of success overall, including a State Runners-Up finish at Minnesota State AAU Championships. What were some of your favorite moments of the season, either on or off the court?

I enjoyed traveling to Arizona with the team and all the late night activities after games at the hotel. We had lots of team dinners and would always hang out.  We have so much fun on and off the court it makes the season so enjoyable.

2) As you head into your Junior season you have drawn a lot of interest in recruiting. What are some of the things you'll be looking for in a school as you get closer to making your college decision?

I want to make sure I have a good relationship with the coaches and I like the school. I want to know what style of basketball they play and how competitive the program is. At the end of the day I want to make sure it’s a good fit for me and my future.

3) At St Louis Park your team had a solid season last year, but also return a lot of key pieces. What are some of your individual and team goals for the 2022-23 season?

An individual goal of mine is to grow as a positive leader and to be a consistent scorer. A team goal we’ve always had is to play for each other, and get first in our conference.

4) You've had the opportunity to play in a lot of gyms in your career, either at the club or High School levels. What are some of your favorite places to play and what makes those places special?

One place I’ve always played growing up was Peter Hobart park. I played pick up games and would always go there after school. Another one is St. Louis park middle school I would watch my brother play and I would scrimmage against the boys when they needed more people at a young age playing against older boys made me more competitive.

5) You play with a motor on the court that is as good as any player I evaluate. What are some of the things you do mentally or physically that allow you to play with so much energy each and every possession?

I try not to look back on plays that already happened and move on to the current possession that helps me stay locked in. I’m also a very competitive player and I don’t like losing.
