This edition of Five Questions is with Savannah Gage. Savannah just concluded club play with Kingdom Hoops 2024 Elite & will be a Sophomore at Ankeny High School (IA). Division I talent. Thanks for your time Savannah!

1) You just received an offer from Nebraska Omaha. First, congratulations, and that'll lead me to the first question, what are you looking for in a school, both academically and on the court?

As a basketball program, I look for a positive team culture and a family atmosphere.  As a guard, I like to play fast and push the ball, so I would like a program where I can create for myself and others offensively and where we play intense, high energy defense.  Academics are also really important to me, and I would like to attend a school that supports student athletes and that has great opportunities in the area I want to study.  I plan to go into health sciences of some sort but I haven't decided which area just yet.

2) You are coming off a strong season with Kingdom Hoops 2024 Elite. A team comprised of primarily 2025 players, but playing in the 2024 divisions. What were some of the advantages you found in playing up and what were some of your favorite memories from this past season?

Our team loves to compete and play hard, so we like the challenge of playing up.  It helps us prepare better for our high school seasons and our future beyond high school, hopefully playing college basketball at a high level.  I love that my teammates and I have been playing together since we were in elementary school at Kingdom Hoops.  I think we have a lot of trust and good chemistry on the floor because of those relationships with each other and with our coach, Meredith Burkhall.  My favorite memory is probably seeing fireworks together on the 4th of July in downtown Indianapolis.

3) A question I like to ask our multi-sport athletes: you are in both basketball (at High School and club levels) and track, what are some of the advantages you find in being a multi-sport athlete and do you ever have any time crunches with such a heavy schedule?

I just love to compete and to represent my school.  I have always been a runner, and I really enjoy it.  I think it helps build my strength and endurance for the basketball season, and it also really helps me build mental toughness.  There are always time conflicts, but my coaches are really flexible and supportive of me and my goals, so it always works out.

4) Last season you were a double-digit scorer as a Freshman at Ankeny, and narrowly missed a trip to the State Tournament. With so much returning this year for the Hawks, what are some of your individual and team goals for 2022-23?

We have big goals this year as a team and we intend to get to the state tournament and play in Wells Fargo this season.  We play in a really tough conference being in the CIML, but we know that we have what it takes this season to make a run and break some of the school records we set last season.  My goals for our team are most important to me, but individually, I am always focused on doing whatever it takes to win.

5) Besides playing home games in Ankeny, what are some of your favorite courts you've gotten to play on either at Ankeny or with Kingdom Hoops?

I always love playing our rivalry game vs. Ankeny Centennial whether at home or away.   I would also say that the sub-state final game at Roosevelt last year was an amazing atmosphere, even though we came up short.  The whole gym was packed for girls basketball and that was so cool to see.  In AAU, I loved playing at the McCormick Place in Chicago.  And of course, playing at Kingdom Courts is like home to me.
