This round of Five Questions is with Maya Metcalf. Maya is a 6'2" 2023 Forward from West Fargo Sheyenne HS (ND). Metcalf recently completed this season with North Tartan 2023 EYBL on the Nike Circuit. Also a 2023 commit to Minnesota State-Moorhead. Thanks for your time Maya!

1) You just completed your club season with North Tartan 2023 EYBL, playing some of the best competition across the country. What were some of your favorite moments, whether on the court or off of it, from this past season with North Tartan?
The best parts of the EYBL season were becoming good friends with new teammates and experiencing a whole new level of basketball.
2) This is a question I like to ask players playing club basketball in a different state. It's a long drive (roughly 3 1/2 hours) from Fargo to Minneapolis to play with North Tartan. What were some of the factors in your deciding to travel so far to play your club basketball?
It was a big decision to decide to play for North Tartan because it involves a lot of travel and time and money, but my family and I made the decision to do it to grow my basketball game and get acclimated to a more college like feel.
3) You recently verballed with Minnesota State-Moorhead, one of the strongest programs in Division II basketball. What were some of the reasons you decided to commit to Coach Nelson and the Dragons?
There were a lot of factors that led to my decision to commit to MSUM. Coach Karla and Coach Swenson were very supportive during the recruiting process and during my high school and AAU season, and I like the winning culture they’ve built. Another reason was the current MSUM players were super welcoming and had all good things to say about the program and coaches.
4) Last season at West Fargo Sheyenne you reached the State Tournament but fell in the Quarterfinals to eventual Champion Minot. What are some of the things you and your Mustangs teammates will be focusing on to try and gain a return trip and to try and advance further this season?
This year for Sheyenne basketball I think we are going to have more of a defensive focus in order to beat the best teams and play more consistently.
5) You've gotten to travel the country playing on the EYBL circuit. What were some of your favorite locations/gyms to play at this past season?
I am so grateful for all the places I’ve gotten to go for EYBL, but my favorite tournament was Boo Williams in Hampton, Virginia. It was my first EYBL tournament so the whole experience was super eye opening and Hampton was one of the prettiest places I’ve been to.
