Game Summary

In a game which they never trailed, Chapman Basketball Academy 2024 defeated Let It Rain 2024 Blac 58-31. It was part of a 4-0 weekend for Chapman Basketball Academy at the Race for the Legacy.

Chapman opened the games scoring with an offensive rebound finish Katelyn Odem, who helped set the tone with her energy on both ends of the floor. A pair of free throws for Ava Brandenburg of Let It Rain tied it at 2 but from there Chapman would never be tied or trail again.

An 8-1 run opened an early 10-3 lead. In the run Chapman got scores from Sarah Aleknavicius on both a drive and an interior finish, followed by an Odem drive and Natalie Mueller interior finish.

Despite cold shooting, getting to the line and converting kept Let It Rain within reach. Three freebies, 2 delivered by Ellie Demet, the third from Abbey Inda cut the deficit to just four at 10-6.

Chapman Academy would extend their the lead to double-digits for the first time at 16-6 after they started to heat up from the left wing with a pair of triples from Odem and Madison Fitzgibbon, a true sniper who finished with a team-high 18 points, connecting four times from the arc.

The last time Let It Rain would be within single digits was at 16-10 when Inda hit more free throws and Let It Rain cashed in their first field goal, an inside finish by Brandenburg that made it 16-10.

Little did anyone know the game was about to be blown open, as cold shooting continued for Let It Rain and Chapman Academy heated up, going on a decisive 15-0 run to make it 31-10. The run started with Fitzgibbon hitting two freebies, then a steal and score for Lucy Leininger opened it bag to double figures at 20-10.

Left wing three from Fitzgibbon started her on a scoring binge. She added a straight-away three and another off the right wing sandwiching a fastbreak score from Alekvanicious pushed the lead out for good.

Let It Rain did show some fight, with a lane score for Lexi Fuhremann, and more free throws, two for Karsyn Nelson, another for Addison Yates, sparking a 5-0 mini-run.

A 6-2 run to end the half by Chapman Basketball Academy made it 37-19 at the break. All six came from Taylor Schwalenberg, a short jumper, two free throws and a full-court drive.

Chapman came out quickly in the 2nd half as well, cashing in the opening 6 points. A beautiful back cut score for Mimi Hart, a short jumper off penetration by Odem and an offensive stick back by Fitzgibbon made it 43-19.

The teams would swap scores making it 47-23. For Chapman a transition score from Fitzgibbon and a strong drive by Leininger were answered by Let It Rain with a Mataya Fernandez free throw and three points from Demet on an interior bucket and an additonal free throw.

Chapman continued their torrid play with a Mueller three from the left corner and a baseline jumper for Lauren Strifling. A pair of drives, one from Let It Rain's Inda, another from Chapman's Aleknavicious made it 54-25 late.

Late scores from Chapman's Mueller in transiton and Odem on a baseline drive rounding out their scoring, while Let It Rain countered with a left corner three for Bridgewater and a nice give from Fernandez to Brandenburg to make the final 58-31.
